Nov 29, 2006 -Ebitu Ukiwe Visits Tinubu, Pledges To Reform The Polity
Presidential aspirant under the platform of the People Democratic Party, Rtd Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with a pledge to reform the Nigerian polity.
He also revealed that pressures from all sections of the Nigerian populace prompted his joining the Presidential race.
Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe who was received by Deputy Governor, Otunba Femi Pedro at the Alausa Oval Office commended the boldness which the retired naval officer has displayed in joining the race.
He commended the gentle resilience which the former chief of general staff was known for, adding that all the Lagos State Government could do for the aspirant is to pray for his success.
Retired Commodore Ukiwe said he felt a sense of history and duty in coming Lagos state Governor's office at Alausa because he was responsible for conceptualizing the construction when he was still the Lagos State Military Administrator before the election of Alhaji Lateef Jakande Governor in 1979.
He commended the wonderful job which the present administration has done to infrastructure facilities in the State despite the fact the State serves as home to everyone thus over stretching its facilities and resources.
Commodore Ukiwe expressed hope that by the time he pays a second visit to the Governor's office after the elections, it would be in his capacity as the elected President and Commander in chief of the federation.
He said it is because of the strategic position which Lagos State occupies in the scheme of things and in his life history that Lagos was the first port of call for his campaign tour.
